Hey everyone...
Welcome to many collegians who have recently joined us and are back to school to prepare for Rush (Recruitment) -- while some schools have already begun!! Be sure to send in any news about the week, like how your skits turned out or a sisterhood activity went. And of course, news about your new pledges (potential new members). You know we love to read that stuff!
On another note, the New York Times ran a very interesting article on Sunday - "O Brother (and Sister), Where Art Thy Pins?" It's about fraternity & sorority pin collectors, and details a group of KKG alumnae who have banded together to rescue their badges. You can read the story online at http://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/11/fashion/11PINS.html (registration is required) and I also heard that some local newspapers ran the story as well. The story also mentioned TyOregon, a man who collects Kappa Delta badges. Pin selling on ebay is an on-going topic of discussion on our Yahoogroup - any KD is welcome to join in; you just need to subscribe by emailing: kappa_delta-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
See you next week!
AOT,
Annie

I am looking for a roommate for my BEAUTIFUL ocean-view apartment in Sunny Isles Beach, FL. It is convienient to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale (in between Bal Harbor and Aventura). The complex includes: manned, gated entrance; valet; parking garage; HUGE gym with spa, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi; large pool; club house; concierge; and lots more (details at www.intracoastalyachtclub.com). The room is the master bedroom in a 2/2 with a walk-in closet and balcony. The kitchen has all new white Whirlpool appliances and white tiled floors. The rest of the apartment is tan carpet. The room is on the 16th floor and has a view of the ocean, the downtown skyline, and the intercoastal- simply breathtaking! Only a block off the beach in a very cute little beach town, and only 20 minutes from the South Beach nightlife.
I am a 2nd year medical student at UM, and I need to fill the room quickly. I would LOVE to room with a KD, or anyone you could recommend. Please contact me at UFKDCARRIE@aol.com.

Greetings from Columbia, SC! Hope everyone is doing great! I have a question for anyone in the Atlanta area. My long-time boyfriend of 6 1/2 years might be getting transferred to Morrow, GA, which is in South Atlanta. He works for Washington Mutual Finance. We will need to look for a 1 or 2-bedroom apartment that is nice, affordable, etc. Are any of you familiar with that area, or might know of a place where we could live? I will also need to look for a job for myself eventually. My bachelors degree is in Broadcast Journalism, and my minor was Retailing. But I'm pretty open for anything right now. So if you know of any job leads, please let me know. Please e-mail me back if you can help me at all! My e-mail is kimtrout@hotmail.com. Any help will be appreciated!
Love in AOT,

To all my married and attached friends...
Young and newly married, I relaxed under a pecan tree on a hot Texas summer day, drinking iced tea and getting to know my new sister-in-law, Estelle. Not much older than I, but already the mother of three, Estelle seemed to me experienced and wise.
"Get yourself some girlfriends," she advised, clinking the ice cubes in her glass. "You are going to need girlfriends. Go places with them; do things with them."
What a funny piece of advice, I thought. Hadn't I just gotten married? Hadn't I just joined the couple-world? I was a married woman, for goodness sake, not a young girl who needed girlfriends. But I listened to this new sister-in-law. I got myself some girlfriends.
As the years tumbled by, one after another, gradually I came to understand that Estelle
knew what she was talking about.
Here is what I know about them:
Girlfriends bring casseroles and scrub your bathroom when you are sick.
Girlfriends keep your children and keep your secrets.
Girlfriends give advice when you ask for it.
Sometimes you take it, sometimes you don't.
Girlfriends don't always tell you that you're right, but they're usually honest.
Girlfriends still love you, even when they don't agree with your choices.
Girlfriends might send you a birthday card, but they might not. It does not matter in the least.
Girlfriends laugh with you, and you don't need canned jokes to start the laughter.
Girlfriends pull you out of jams.
Girlfriends don't keep a calendar that lets them know who hosted the other last.
Girlfriends will give a party for your son or daughter when they get married or have a baby, in whichever order that comes!
And girlfriends are there for you, in an instant and truly, when the hard times come.
Girlfriends listen when you lose a job or a husband.
Girlfriends listen when your children break your heart.
Girlfriends listen when your parents' minds and bodies fail.
My girlfriends bless my life. Once we were young, with no idea of the incredible joys or the incredible sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.
Send this along to your girlfriends and brighten their day!
