Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the first issue of volume twelve!
It might be summer, but there's a lot going on. In addition to a couple AA activities, I received several messages from sisters who are requesting your help, for personal reasons. Drop them a note if you can.
Also, summertime = rec time. If you know of a young woman who is attending college and might be going through Recruitment, offer to write a letter of recommendation for her. There's an easy-to-fill-out version of the rec form on HQ's site www.kappadelta.org. And if you happen to know other alumnae in other sororities who would be willing to write a recommendation as well, please share your information. Let's do all we can to encourage young women to go greek!
AOT,
Annie

My husband and I would like to announce the birth of my second child, Tanner Greene Kunkel, born on June 16, 2006, at 12:51 PM. Tanner weighed 7 lb. 4 oz and was 21 inches long. Tanner's big brother Dylan completely adores him and tells him that he loves him all the time. We feel very blessed to have two beautiful, healthy boys.

To all KD sisters:
I left Xi Chapter at Univ. of Pittsburgh in spring 2000. I was unable to return due to an attack of a rare disorder called Transverse Myelitis. This disorder attacks the lining of the spinal cord and causes essentially the same issues as a traumatic spinal cord injury. I was able to recover motor function after this attack, and had begun nursing school at Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge, LA (my home town), and was working as a pediatric nursing assistant in the same hospital. Unfortunately, I suffered a second attack (rare even for TM patients) on March 24, 2005 and have been wheelchair bound ever since.
I am returning to school this fall, and will be attempting to start clinicals in January. I am, not surprisingly, the first student at my college to go through clinicals in a chair, but I know I'm not the first in the country, so it's certainly possible, it just takes some creative thinking, and maybe some special equipment. If there are any sisters who are (or work with) nurses in chairs, or any nurse educators who have worked with students in chairs, I would love to hear from you. If there are any sisters out there with TM, I'd love to hear from you too. We all have slightly different stories to tell, plus I'm only a year in my chair, and some things are still new to me (I'm going to be driving with hand controls soon for the first time, plus I'm nervous about going back to school and being away from home by myself--such a strange feeling for a normally independent person like me who originally went to college 1200 miles from home, not 15 like my new school).
Thanks to everyone for letting me share my story, thanks to anyone who can provide some advice, and a special hello to any of my pledge sisters, or my big sis, who still read the newsletter. I miss you all!
AOT,
Elizabeth Churay Matherne

Dear KD Sisters,
I am using this medium to contact as many sisters as possible who might know Norma Jackson Palda, Gamma Eta. Norma has a huge fight in front of her. Last summer she was diagnosed with an intestinal tumor. She underwent chemo and the doctors told her things were looking very good in January. Unfortunately, last week, the doctors found 12 spots on her liver. She is once again undergoing chemotherapy. I am making a HUG (a quilt) for her so that she can wrap herself in the Hugs of her sisters as she undergoes this fight. If you know Norma and have any picture of your college days with her, I would really appreciate it if you would scan them and send me copies. I would like to add photo transfers to the quilt. I plan to begin the quilt assembly on July 15.
Thank you and AOT

A year ago, on July 25, 2005 we lost a very dear friend, Tamara Hughes Ferrari. A car accident took her from us in the physical form, but she will live on in our hearts forever! We miss you T!
Tamara was a Delta Psi, University of West Georgia. Pledge Class of '95, graduated in 1999. She exemplified all that it means to strive for "that which is honorable, beautiful and highest." She loved KD and her sisters love her still.
