Hi Everyone...!
Spring cleaning time is here! I'm streamlining the publication of this newsletter. No, it's not due to fewer msgs being submitted (though that's still a problem) or lack of time on my part. Instead, it's due to spam-blocking programs that I keep encountering.
So, if you prefer - this is not mandatory - you can also subscribe to the newsletter using either Google Groups or Yahoo Groups. Both groups will be simply "newletter only" messages. The links are:
http://groups.google.com/group/Kappa-Delta-Online
or
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kappadelta/ (this is not the KD chat Yahoogroup)
** these groups are open; I will not be verifying membership through KD HQ. **
If you subscribe to a group, it will also relieve some of the pressure I am feeling from AOL, who still believes I am spamming.
Don't worry, you don't have to do anything. But if you understand any of the above, the options are available. Questions? Confused? Just email me & I'll explain - aioannides@aol.com.
Thanks!
AOT,
Annie

I wanted to send a quick update about Beta Pi's involvement in the 2006
University of Florida Dance Marathon 2006! I am happy to be continuing as the DM advisor from Children's Miracle Network and the chapter participated full force,
below are some of the exciting details.
Dance Marathon at UF is an event that many KD's hold near & dear to
their hearts. In the last few years the UF chapter has had many Overall
Team members, the very prestigious group of students that
plan the entire 32 hour event, as well sisters involved as dancers, team
members, captains and more!
This year sister Rebecca McLarty was recognized as a 4 year dancer - a
VERY significant accomplishment. Sister Mara Weiss served as the Overall
Dancer Relations Chair. Together with the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter our
Beta Pi sisters helped make miracles happen for Shands Kids by raising
more than $40,000 ! DM at UF 2006 raised a record breaking total of
more than $339,000 all for Children's Miracle Network at Shands
Children's Hospital. To learn more please visit, www.floridadm.org.

A friend of mine has a younger sister in high school and she is thinking a lot about going into the air force. I was wondering if there are any KD's out there who could recommend any good websites for her to search for info. (general AF stuff, different jobs, bases...) and/or if they'd be willing to answer any questions via email for her or just fill her in on what it is like. I thought a woman's point of view might be good! If you can help, email me at kweizman@yahoo.com

Just a reminder to fellow Oregonians to vote & get your ballots in the mail for the Oregon primaries, May 16. Ballots were mailed to voters Apr 28 this year.
My husband, Ted Wheeler, is running for Multnomah County Chair against the incumbent, Diane Linn. He's been endorsed by the Oregonian http://tinyurl.com/z5vvn, The Portland Tribune and the Gresham Outlook, as well as 3 of the County Commissioners and AFSCME, the union that represents the county employees, in addition to many others.
Here's a link to Ted's campaign site: http://www.wheelerforcountychair.com/ for more information about Ted and his plans to bring common sense back to County government.
p.s. We're expecting our first child in late September; it's a girl!

Annie,
Could you let everyone know that one of our KD sisters
passed away this past weekend in Oklahoma City.
Kaye Chase died Saturday, April 8, 2006 after a 15 year
battle with brain cancer. Kaye was initiated at
Gamma Theta at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
She pledged in 1977. Kaye was a kindergarten teacher
at Adams Elementary School in Norman, OK and was
greatly loved by her students. Her older sister Dee
Ann Chase was also a KD (Gamma Theta).

[ed. note: this poem was sent through the KD Moms Yahoogroup. Thought I'd share it in honor of Mothers' Day - Annie ]
Before I was a Mom
Before I was a Mom –
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom –
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom –
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
Before I was a Mom -
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom –
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache,
The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much –
before I was a Mom.
