Hi everyone..
In case you didn't get an email from HQ, Kappa Delta has put in action two programs to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina:
www.kidsneedtobekids.org - Kappa Delta is encouraging individuals, businesses and organizations to send new and gently used toys, games, books and clothing to its national headquarters at 3205 Players Lane, Memphis, TN 38125. Items will be sent to churches and organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts and evacuee centers in the areas most affected by Katrina by mobilizing a broad-based network of Kappa Deltas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida
Kappa Delta Crisis Fund - kdcrisisfund@kappadelta.org - donations for sisters & their families who are victims of the hurricane. You can mail donations to the Kappa Delta Foundation at 3205 Players Lane, Memphis, TN 38125 or donate online at http://www.kappadelta.org/www.kappadelta.org. To donate online, go to Community Involvement, Donate Online, and choose Make Foundation Donation from the left side menu. Complete the form and choose, Crisis Fund in the Donation to: field. Donations earmarked for this fund will be distributed according to Crisis Fund criteria which are available on the KD Web site under How You Can Help the KD Foundation. The amount of funds that will be distributed will be based upon the amount of funds we receive.
Please take the time to visit these websites and help if you can.
One of our sisters has written in another way of supporting those who need help - please see her note at the end of this newsletter.
I know you all join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to those whose lives have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.
AOT,
Annie

If you’d like to see photos of the beautiful KD House and chapter room at USF, log on to my Webshots page at http://community.webshots.com/user/balljj . Many thanks go to Becky Braun Conkling and Mary Ann Eck Olden, the original decorators who are members of the Clearwater Alumnae Assoc., and to the Delta Eta House Corp. and Tampa AA members who recently added lovely decorative touches to the house. The Delta Eta chapter is one of the top sororities on campus, and we wish them continued success!!
While we celebrate the success of Delta Eta, we also join other Kappa Deltas and US citizens in sending our thoughts and prayers to those who suffered such tremendous losses during and after Hurricane Katrina. Log on to www.kidsneedtobekids.org for more information about how Kappa Deltas are helping the children who are storm victims.

Hello to all my KD sisters! My name is Jennifer Church and I'm a Delta
Pi (MTSU-2000) Alumnae. I'm actively seeking an event manager/meeting
planner position in Nashville, TN. I currently work with the JW
Marriott Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta, GA as an Event Concierge through
Event Management and Operations. My degree is in Marketing/Business
Administration. While I love Marriott, I am not necessarily looking to
stay in the hospitality industry, it would be ideal to find a position
through a planning company or an individual planner for a corporation.
I would appreciate any information regarding planning or Marketing
positions! Your help is greatly appreciated!

I’m a Creative Memories consultant in Durham, NC and Creative Memories is a national sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk. One of the reasons I became a CM consultant is because I have experienced seeing the effects of dementia on my grandmother. Alzheimer's is a serious form of dementia, but not all dementia is Alzheimer’s. One weekend, I witnessed that grandma was having a hard time remembering my grandfather's and my mother's name. It was scary to realize that she could get mixed up with those who were closest to her. From then, I realized how important it is to preserve the memories of those nearest to us. This is why I am asking for your help with the Memory Walk 2005, so that the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of memory loss will be better.
In a Gallup poll commissioned by the Alzheimer’s Association, 1 in 10 Americans said that they had a family member with Alzheimer’s and 1 in 3 knew someone with the disease. The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease will continue to grow – by 2050 the number of individuals with Alzheimer’s could range from 11.3 million to 16 million.
There are two ways that you can support me as I walk in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.
1. Pledge a monetary donation on my Personal Page. I have a personal goal of raising $200 and my team, the CM Memory Keepers, has a goal of raising at least $1000. Proceeds from Memory Walk go directly to improve the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's and promote research and effective treatments.
http://makeashorterlink.com/?H17D325BB - Be sure to select my name to donate on my personal page.
2. If you live in the RDU area, join the CM Memory Keepers Team by visiting the link above “My Team Page!” There is no monetary commitment to join. By joining the team, you will help us reach our team goal of having a minimum of 20 people walk with us on October 1st. As you join the team, I encourage you to in turn invite others to join you.
Thanks to all my KD sisters for supporting the Alzheimer's Association and me!

A friend I know from an online community I belong to has tried to figure out ways to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and asked that we all pass along this information to anyone we know who can also help, and I thought that this would be something individuals, AAs and chapters could all participate in, to whatever extent they have the ability.
She imagined herself a displaced survivor sitting in the Houston Astrodome with nothing to do but worry about their losses. It occured to her she could help. Wait till you hear how much she has accomplished in two days. First she contacts Harrah's casino who will be sending cartons of playing cards to the refugee centers ( what a great idea!) then with that success she contacted a printing house who will be sending crossword puzzle books. The girl is on a roll I tell you! But it doesn't stop here and you can be a part of it without donating . . . please keep reading. Then she contacted Staples who will send papers and pencils and envelopes, etc so they can write and communicate outside the refugee centers.
With that came the amazing realization that we can brighten their day by writing to them. Yep, a simple card or letter of hope from a stranger. Tricia actually contacted the post office in Houston and arranged an address we can send letters and cards to that will be delivered to the refugee centers in large cartons so that the survivors can simply pick something to read..
If you would like to send a letter of hope and support to someone in a refugee center in Texas, you can use this address. LETTERS AND CARDS ONLY PLEASE
(LOOK BELOW FOR THE ADDRESS TO SEND OTHER ITEMS - THANKS)
Tricia has established an address with the Houston Post Office, thanks to a very receptive Postal manager there, Adrianne Phillips. Here it is:
"Dear Family"
Astrodome
c/o Adrianne Phillips
United States Post Office
8205 Braesmain
Houston, TX 77025
More information from Tricia: I'm told they are being allowed some free postage but only for "necessary mailings". So including a few stamps in a letter is a GREAT idea!
And even more that she has done ! Wow when this woman moves there is no stopping her !
Here is an address to send DIRECTLY to the refugees - coloring books, crayons, books, used dvds, games and any other type of past time.
Please send only cards and letters to the above address but if you would like to send used toys, games, books or dvd's please use the address below.
Salvation Army
Store #1
2208 Washington Avenue
Houston, TX 77007
Please put "Operation Activity" on the box or in an enclosed communication. They have already informed them of the project and they will know from the designation that the items are for the hurricane victims. They have quite a system in place. They are handing out vouchers and the sanctuaries are transporting victims to the store to choose from items specifically donated for them. So, yes, please do, send the books and DVDs and any other crafty, or time spending, item you can!
I know we can all help in whatever way best suits us!!
