Hey Everyone..

Rush is a week away at UF! Have you sent in your recommendations? (Yikes, I know I haven't!). remember, the chapter prefers you to snail mail recs, rather than submitting through email.

Also, if any of you are involved in your local Alumnae Associations, how about sending the Beta Pi's some treats!? Remember how we appreciated them during those late night bid sessions!?

And don't forget to visit Beta Pi's website, designed by Crystal Gravois, at: http://grove.ufl.edu/~kd/index.html

Best of luck to our collegians for Rush/Recruitment! PLEASE keep us updated -- you know how we love to get chapter news! :)

AOT,
Annie

Hi! Hope you are having a great summer. I have some wonderful news! I am thrilled to announce the arrival of our son, Justin Russell Baldauff. He was born on at 11:52am on May 21, 2001, weighing in at 7 lbs., 13 oz. 18 inches long. When he was born, his lungs weren't quite ready so he spent 2 1/2 weeks in the NICU which was hard on my husband Mike and I, but he's home now and doing just great. In fact, I am just back from maternity leave and I can't wait to head home from work for the day to pick him up from his "school" to see how his day went! Like Jackie Roberts mentioned regarding her nephew in the last newsletter, Justin better be a gator through and through or his mommy and daddy will be crushed ;-) We already received some flack from his nurses and now his teachers at school regarding his gator booties since we live in the heart of UGA-Land here in Atlanta!

Hello Beta Pi's,
I am writing with exciting news. My husband and I and our 2 sons are FINALLY moving back to Florida. We have been in Nashville, TN for the past 6 years and have had our fill of hearing "Rocky Top"! We are moving to Fort Myers (where I am from). Bo is starting a new job and a new career. He will be training to do financial services for an insurance firm in Fort Myers. I am trying to secure a job as a speech pathologist in the school system there, but they do not usually do all new hires until right before school starts. We are so excited to be closer to family and friends and hope to be able to go to a few more gator games! I will be moving on July 20th with all the livestock (2 boys, a BIG dog, and a cat) and Bo is coming down mid August. Can't wait to get back to the beach!!!! AOT,
Alice Allen Pamplin, PC '88

Hi! A couple pieces of news. I have a new baby boy, Robert Chester Mobley, born on May 7th. His big sister Amanda is still adjusting to the idea that she's no longer an only child.

Also, Gail Howard Eischeid is expecting another baby girl (Emilye is now 3) at the end of September and is moving to Savannah from Atlanta at the end of the month :-(.

Thanks,
Debbie Rankin Mobley

Thought you'd like to see what my sister Shirley Allen (Beta Pi PC 1985) has been up to lately! This was on the front page of the New York Times! Only Shirley... :)

Sports Use Technology and T.L.C. to Hold On to Fans

By JERE LONGMAN

As producer of the L.P.G.A.'s Web site, Shirley Allen does more than write articles and update photographs. In a sense, she serves as an online concierge.

Want to know why the Grand Slam winner Karrie Webb used a 7-iron on a particular hole? Struggling with your own game and want to know how Annika Sorenstam, the world's No. 1 player, keeps her confidence up? Send an e-mail message to Allen at LPGA.com and she will go find out. No question is too picayune.

"You have to bring the fans closer to the athletes," Allen said at the McDonald's L.P.G.A. Championship in Wilmington, Del., last month. "This is the calm before the storm in sports. Something's got to change. Something's going to shake it up."

It is a time of great uncertainty in the American sports industry. Television networks and professional leagues are struggling to come to grips with evolving technology and viewing habits in the face of spiraling costs, generally declining television ratings and a leveling off of attendance.
