== Beta Pi Update - Issue 40 ==
5/10/00

Hey there..

It's been almost a month since the last update, so here ya go. Please keep sending in your updates! Otherwise, there wouldn't be much news to print!

If you'd like to catch up on Beta Pi reading, I have uploaded most of the newsletters to my website http://members.xoom.com/kdonline

In case you didn't catch what I've been writing about in the regular KD newsletter:
Don't forget: the new
Kappa Delta Alumnae Directory will be published this year. If you haven't received a letter from Harris Publishing (and are an alumna), that means HQ doesn't have your address in file -- email kappadel@ixlmemphis.com to update your records. So, I'm sure if you email HQ, they'll point you in the right direction. Let's get a strong Beta Pi showing in the directory!

And one last thing...if anyone knows of any KD's in Miami, please let me know. I'm going to make another try to get the Miami AA going, but I can't do it alone!

AOT,
Annie

Here is my info:
I married Michael Garlington in July of 1993. He was a Delta Tau Delta at
UF and from Gainesville. We have a daughter, Elinor, who will be 2 years old
in June. She is such a joy! Every day brings new, wonderful experiences.
We live in Sarasota. I have been with NationsBank for 14 years, and am now
a Relationship Manager with the Private Bank.
Between Elinor and work, I am very busy (as we all are). We still get to
G'ville at least once a month to visit our families.
I do have other exciting news. On April 6, the University of Florida named
a residence hall after my Father, Harold C. Riker. It was a wonderful honor
and special occasion. Mother (Bette), Elizabeth and I were very
appreciative of the recognition.

Jill Gabrielle BYRD- PC 1988/Class of 1992
After I graduated with my bachelors in spring of 92, I started graduate
school for my Masters in Audiology. In December of that year, I married
my best friend, Houston Byrd. We both got our degrees and then, moved to
Birmingham, Alabama. He teaches at the university and I work for a
private practice Speech and Hearing clinic. I work part-time now that we
have Gabrielle, who is 3yrs. in July and Houston, who will be 1yr. in
June. We've been blessed with a great house on a cul-de-sac of wonderful
families.......... are very involved in our church.... have made some
special friends and enjoy keeping our UF spirit with the Birmingham Gator
club! We have a state park just a few miles down the road where we love
to picnic, visit the "petting farm", and pre-kids- golf and hike!!
Birmingham is at the end of the Appalachian Mountains so- it really is
beautiful here- I know some of you North Caroliners and Virginians know
what I mean!!!!

I really have not kept in touch with many UF KD's lately- until a couple
years ago, I saw Gina Sulser (I know she married but don't know her
married name) and Wendy Godwin Abdoney.......but I love to hear all about
everybody!! Three cheers to Annie for getting this organized! If anyone
does know the whereabout of Kelly Wadsworth (92)....... please let me
know- I lost touch about 2 years ago and would love to know where she is!

I wish you all health and happiness!

Here's my update.

Hi from Ellen Connelly Taaffe (graduated '83)! I live in the Chicago area with my husband of five years, Ned, and our 15 month old daughter, Maggie. We live in cozy, charming, vintage house in Evanston, the first suburb north of the city in a wonderful neighborhood that seems to have experienced a baby boom over the last few years. To accomodate this, everyone seems to be remodeling including us - we start in 6 weeks. God help us.
I work in the city for Quaker Oats as marketing director of the Convenience Foods division. Believe it or not, I have now been with Quaker for 16 years, fresh out of UF campus recruiting. I started out in sales and moved around to six different cities in the southeast in the earlier part of my career. I moved to our Chicago headquarters in '90 and did a career change into brand management/consumer marketing in '94. To help that move, I went to business school at Northwestern University graduating in '97. Think of me when you see Quaker ads or try products like Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Fruit & Oatmeal cereal bars, Crispy Mini's, Rice Cakes, Rice-a-Roni, Pasta-Roni or Gatorade Energy Bars. I work on all of these brands.
I love what I do, yet am challenged by the amount of work and the whole life/family balance (or rather lack thereof). My key to sanity is my very understanding and flexible husband, who is teaching part time at DePaul and Northwestern Universities. Since he works from home, we have been able to get by with a part time nanny that we share with our next door neighbors. It seems to work for us so far and we're very happy.
Unfortunately, I don't see any KD's on a regular basis, but try to get together with some of the west coast KD's when I am visiting my mother in Sarasota over Thanksgiving week. My sister, Jane Connelly Davis (grad. '86) is living in Seattle with her husband Damian Davis (KD sweetheart) and their children, Maddie, 6, and Connor, 4. She is a web designer. Since they just moved to Seattle in November they spend a lot of time exploring their new city.

I have a request - does anyone know how to get in touch with Kim Bennedict (PC '89) or Samantha Crimaldi (PC '91 I think)? I think that Kim married Brian and Sam married Jeff but I don't remember either of their last names. I think Kim and Sam are still in Florida but have no idea where to start to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(And to answer a question I got last week - no I haven't been cow-tipping here in Abilene, TX and don't plan to anytime soon - lol - but the bar-be-q is fabulous!)

Just wanted to announce another Beta Pi legacy. Sydney Lauren Ethen was
born the morning of April 20, 2000 and weighed in at 9 pounds 2 ounces. I'm
